Getting started

3 articles
How do I plan my first date?
Tap the "Plan Your First Tryst" card on the home screen. The wizard walks you through 5 steps: pick a vibe, choose an idea, find a venue, set a date, and review. It takes about 2 minutes.
Do I need to add a partner?
No β€” partner profiles are optional. You can plan dates solo. Adding a partner lets Tryst personalize recommendations based on both your preferences, but it's never required.
What's the Partner Survey?
Hand your phone to your partner β€” they answer 5 quick questions about what kind of dates they want. Their answers shape future recommendations so dates work for both of you.

Planning & ideas

4 articles
Where do the date ideas come from?
Tryst includes 550+ handwritten date ideas across 7 categories. You can also add your own ideas β€” paste a list or add them one at a time. Your partner can suggest ideas too.
How does the recommendation engine work?
Tryst matches ideas to you along a few signals: how well an idea fits your preferences (vibes, budget, partner fit), the context (time of day, season, occasion), and what you've enjoyed before. There's no public score and no paid placement β€” it just gets more personal with every date you reflect on.
Can I skip the venue step?
Yes β€” tap "Skip β€” add a venue later" on the venue step. Some dates (like movie night at home) don't need a venue at all, and Tryst skips the step automatically for those.
What if there are no venues near me?
Tryst searches in expanding circles (10km, then 25km, then 50km). If nothing is found at any distance, you can save the idea for later or try a different search term. Tryst learns from this and stops suggesting categories that don't exist in your area.

After the date

3 articles
How do I reflect on a date?
After your date, open the plan and tap "Complete & Reflect." Note how the date went, tag the mood, and optionally save how the venue felt to you and capture your favorite moment. It's private — a note to yourself that quietly makes your future matches more personal.
Can I save how a venue felt without a full reflection?
Yes. On any completed tryst's detail view, a quick "How was the venue?" card appears. Save it in seconds β€” it's just for you, a private memory that helps Tryst match you better next time. No other reflection fields required.
What is The Pulse?
The Pulse is your personal dating analytics β€” streaks, mood patterns, best categories, day-of-week trends. It shows the shape of your relationship over time. Access it from the "View All" button in the stats section.

Big occasions

3 articles
How does the Big Day card work?
Tryst surfaces a coral Big Day card on Home within 45 days of Valentine's, New Year's Eve, your anniversary, or any birthday you've added. It includes a time-gated checklist β€” "Book a restaurant" unlocks 4 weeks out, "Order a gift" 2 weeks, outfit 1 day, etc.
Will the app remind me about Valentine's weeks in advance?
Yes. If you've set up a partner profile, Tryst schedules push reminders for Valentine's and NYE at 42d, 28d, 14d, and 3d out. For custom important dates (anniversaries, birthdays), the same cadence applies.
How does the reservation reminder know if I've actually booked?
Honestly, it asks. After you pick a restaurant in the wizard for an occasion date, Tryst shows a "Is your table reserved?" prompt. Tap "Yes, it's booked" and the BigDay checklist auto-checks β€” otherwise it keeps nudging until you do.

Privacy & data

2 articles
Is my data private?
Yes β€” everything stays on your phone. Tryst has no servers, no accounts, no analytics tracking. If you use iCloud, data syncs via Apple's encrypted CloudKit. Read our full Privacy Policy.
How do I delete my data?
Go to Settings › Account & Data › Delete Account & Data. This permanently removes everything from your device and iCloud.

Troubleshooting

3 articles
My calendar event didn't get added.
Tryst needs calendar permission. Go to Settings › Privacy & Security › Calendars › Tryst and enable Full Access. Then re-add from the date/time step or TrystDetail view.
I'm not getting notifications.
Check Settings › Notifications › Tryst and make sure "Allow Notifications" is on. You can also confirm what's scheduled via Settings › Preferences › Notifications inside the app.
My data isn't syncing to my other device.
Tryst uses iCloud via CloudKit. Make sure you're signed into iCloud on both devices with the same Apple ID, and that iCloud is enabled for Tryst (Settings › [Your Name] › iCloud › Tryst).
